Club Champion Player
The Le Couteur Medal is awarded each season to the Club’s champion player, recognising the highest-performing player across all grades of Premier Cricket.
The medal honours Philip Le Couteur, UCC’s founder and first captain. A Victorian Rhodes Scholar, Oxford Blue and UWA’s first Lecturer in Philosophy, Le Couteur was also an extraordinary all-round cricketer. In UCC’s inaugural 1913–14 season, he scored 527 runs, took 84 wickets and made 18 catches. Under the Club Champion points system, his performance equates to 2,107 points, a tally unmatched by any UCC player in more than a century. A CLUB TRADITION The Club Champion award was formally introduced in 1974–75 and renamed the Le Couteur Medal in 2005, recognising Le Couteur’s unique contribution to UCC. To mark the occasion, previous Club Champions were invited to the 2005 end-of-season dinner and presented with retrospective Le Couteur Medals. The Club subsequently calculated retrospective winners for seasons dating back to its entry into the WACA competition in 1913. HOW THE MEDAL IS DECIDED The Le Couteur Medal is awarded to the player from any grade who records the highest points total across Premier Cricket grade matches during the season. 1 point per run 20 points per wicket 10 points per catch or stumping 20 bonus points for a century 20 bonus points for a five-wicket haul The weighting for wickets increased from 15 to 20 points from the 2020–21 season.

Philip Le Couteur
Le Couteur served as the inaugural philosophy lecturer when courses commenced at the University of Western Australia in 1913.
He was also the founder and first captain of the University of Western Australia Cricket Club during the 1913–14 season.
That season, Le Couteur took 84 wickets, scored 527 runs and took 18 catches, an extraordinary all-round performance that remains unmatched in UCC history.

Ray Strauss
Ray Strauss holds the record for the most Le Couteur Medals, winning the Club’s highest individual playing honour an extraordinary nine times.
Best First Year Player
The Richard Morgan Memorial Award is awarded to the best first year player at the club.
The Richard Morgan Memorial Award honours promising UCC fast bowler Richard Morgan, who tragically died during the 1991–92 season after an accidental fall from the tower of St George’s College.
The trophy features a cricket stump Richard broke while bowling at training, a lasting reminder of his speed and talent.
Originally from Northam and a former Aquinas College student, Richard Morgan made an immediate impression at UCC with his exceptional pace from a remarkably short run-up. In his final match for the Club, against Wanneroo at James Oval, he dismissed future Australian Test batsman Damien Martyn for a duck. Richard was also an outstanding student. He had topped his first year of Agricultural Science and was preparing to begin his honours year. Following his death, the Club established the Richard Morgan Memorial Award, presented each season to UCC’s Best First Year Player.

Honouring Service
The Bauer-Meyer Perpetual Trophy recognises outstanding service and contribution to UCC.
The award was renamed in 2021 in honour of Christian Bauer and John Meyer, two Club members whose extraordinary service to UCC spans several decades.
Christian Bauer joined UCC as a player in 1990 and has since served the Club as a captain, coach, selector, committee member, treasurer and WA Cricket delegate. His contribution to cricket administration has continued beyond UCC, including senior roles within WA cricket.
John Meyer has supported UCC for more than 40 years and is regarded as the Club’s authority on its history. A familiar presence at First Grade matches both home and away, his knowledge and long-standing support provide an important link between generations of UCC players.
